After graduation I got a job working for the State of Maine Department of Marine Resources in the Public Health Division. I worked in the field and lab testing salt water and shellfish for fecal coliform bacteria. We used our data to regulate openings and closures of clam flats for harvest. I spent nearly 2 years there before deciding to go back to school.

I just started at UConn Avery Point working towards a PhD in Biological Oceanography. I am working under a NSF Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases grant. We will be looking at bivalve uptake of bacteria via marine aggregates. This work is also being supported by NOAA's Oceans and Human Health Initiative.
